Casual/Luxe Cottage by Peter Dunham

How great is that giant dining nook?  Using two separate tables allows people seated in the center of the long banquette to squeeze in and out, which is smart.  I just love dining areas fitted with custom banquettes.  If I don;t get to design one for myself sometime soon I might have to do it for someone else.  Any takers?

I Want This Bookshelf

I love all things adjustable, flexible, and customizable.  People's needs change over time, and it's nice to have furnishings that are able to adapt to those changes.  This bookshelf makes me drool.  The verticals are completely notched out at regular intervals, making it easy to move the shelves around and turning that functional aspect into a design element.  Such an improvement over those ugly vertical lines of peg holes running up the insides of a bookcase.

Elle Decor: London Assurance

I love a good neutral palette, but lately I'm trying to push myself to pay more attention to color.  I loved the use of color in this interior featured in Elle Decor October 2012: London Assurance.  Rich jewel tones are layered over a great neutral base full of black, white, grays, and neutrals.  Great styling too!  More photos of this project below and after the jump.

Color Files: House Beautiful - Layer With a Global Mix

Great use of color and mixing of textiles in this project.  There's a lot going on in these photos, they're a bit of a departure from my usual preferences of simple palettes with an emphasis on natural materials and very sparing use of color.  Although there is more color here, the palette is still restrained to a range of purples and reds and neutrals.  GREAT rugs.  And I am dying for this bathroom.

Good Idea: Powder Room Mirror

Why hang just a small mirror over your bathroom vanity when you can mirror the entire wall?  Of course, you should only do this if the view you're reflecting is so nice you want to see it twice.

Good Ideas

Some good ideas from Royce Pinkwater's apartment, as featured in House Beautiful October 2011.

 An enlarged photo was placed behind glass on the bathroom wall.  This is a nice alternative to tile, and a great way to add unique character to a space.

 I love the framing of this view into the eat-in kitchen.

Beautiful bathroom from the same apartment as the kitchen below.  I LOVE that silver travertine in the shower.  It is from Walker Zanger.

I loved this entry way and staircase featured in AD April 2011.  This color combination always strikes me.  It reminded me of the floor tiles in the guest bathroom at Hemingway's house in Key West:

I love that terrarium!  It's very inspiring!  I wish I could live at the Hemingway House part time:
